A charming and finely renovated holiday home
with terrace overlooking the beautiful Baroque city of Modica in
Sicily |
view of Modica Alta |
view of Modica from the apartment's terrace |
Modica is among the cities of southeast Sicily
which recently have been declared World Heritage by Unesco acknowledging
its remarkably intact urban Baroque architecture. "The city
of hundred churches", located in a picturesque canyon inhabitated
since prehistoric times, has been rebuilt completely after the devastating
earthquake of 1693 in a joyful Spanish Baroque style that captures
the eye and inspires the spirit. Today Modica provides a charming
occasion to get a glimpse of how Italy might have felt some thirty
years ago. The city is an excellent location for excursions to the
many spectacular spots southeast Sicily has to offer and the closeby
coast facing Africa provides ample opportunity for enjoying the
sandy beaches and the clear Mediterrenean sea. |
The ancient little house is situated in a picturesque
street in a very quiet pedestrian area in the center of Modica Alta,
the most ancient part of Modica. Cafes, grocery stores, shops and
reataurants are close by and Modica's main boulevard Corso Umberto
is just a five minutes walk away. |
The independent house has been restored finely
employing precious local materials and preserving its original charme.
It offers on its living space of 50 sqm all modern comfort including
airconditioning and heating; there is a separate fully equipped
kitchen, a marble tiled bathroom with shower, a living space with
dining table and a sofa; by a stair you reach the loft with a double
bed (fouton 140x200). The attached terrace offers splendid views
on Modica and invites for a sunny breakfast or a candle light diner
under the stars. |
